In a promising step towards advancing labor rights in the U.S. South, the Advancing Black Strategists Initiative (ABSI) was launched by Jobs With Justice in late 2020. This groundbreaking initiative aims to cultivate a dedicated cohort of Black economic justice and labor-focused strategists who are passionate about championing the collective power of working people, especially in the Southern region of the United States.

At the core of the ABSI Movement Fellowship Program is a paid apprenticeship opportunity designed for Black worker-leaders. Through this program, participants gain hands-on experience in structuring and executing strategies that amplify organizing efforts and enhance collective bargaining power within Black-led campaigns throughout the U.S. South. By providing this invaluable practical experience, ABSI is nurturing a new generation of leaders who are equipped to drive positive change and uplift marginalized communities. Moreover, ABSI is a multifaceted initiative that not only focuses on offering practical experience but also delves into research, addresses pertinent labor-related issues, and conducts training sessions to keep participants abreast of the latest developments in labor laws. By offering a platform dedicated to promoting workers' rights and fostering a collaborative environment, ABSI is making significant strides towards creating a more equitable and just labor landscape in the U.S. South. In conclusion, the ABSI Initiative stands as a beacon of hope for individuals striving to make a difference in the realm of labor rights. By providing a platform for Black economic justice and labor-focused strategists to flourish, ABSI is driving impactful change and paving the way for a more inclusive and empowered workforce in the Southern United States.
